SAMBURU NATIONAL PARK


Samburu national park includes Samburu, Buffalo Springs and Shaba reserves which is one of the most interesting places in Kenya. It’s located about 350 km north of Nairobi in Samburu district in the rift valley province on the banks of the Ewaso Ng'iro River. To access the park an overnight is usually spent at the foot hill of Mount Kenya. From here there are 70 km to Shaba, 85 km to Buffalo Springs and 90 km to Samburu. The vegetation is grassland, forest, doum palms, acacia trees and tamarind trees. It’s a home to various bird and animal species

Animals in this park include:  Grevy's zebra, , giraffe , Beisa Oryx, Buffalo Springs, Beisa oryx , antelope, with black and white marks , Guenther's dik-dik ,gerenuk, eland and impala , warthog, waterbuck, bushbuck ,hippos , crocodiles, vervet monkeys , baboons, elephant, cheetah and leopard and wild dogs

Bird species include: lilac breasted roller, eagles, vultures, ostriches, storks and vultures, Somali ostrich, Kori bustard, crested francolins, yellow-necked spurfowls ,vulturine, Red-billed hornbills, marabou storks and superb starlings ,eagles, owls, kites, goshawks and sparrowhawks, Woodpeckers ,like pelicans, herons, hamerkops and  kingfisher

By Road: You can drive to the Park which is about 350 Km from Nairobi about 5 hours
