Serengeti Wildbeests
Serengeti national park is 14,763 sq km. Its 335km drive from Arusha town.  It’s a world heritage site, the 7th worldwide wonder and the oldest national park. Its well known for its annual wildebeests of more than 200,000 zebra and 300,000 Thomson's gazelle that migrate in the months of May, June, July,  October, November and December. Serengeti national park is on the northern part of Tanzania bordering with the Kenyan border and goes up to Masai Mara national park, to the west there is Ikorongo and Grumeti game reserves, to the north east there is Loliodo game control area and to the south there is Maswa game reserve. This park is a home to over 500 bird species

Animals in this park include:  buffalo, elephant, giraffe, eland, topi, kongoni, impala, Zebras, lion, Solitary leopards near Seronera River, cheetahs, hyena, aardwolf , serval cat, Gaudy agama lizards and rock hyraxes, Black Rhinoceros , waterbuck, baboon, African wild dog and kongonis

Bird species include: ostrich, bizarre secretary, black eagles, and acacia woodland secretary bird, Kori bustard, crowned crane, marabou stork, martial eagle, and lovebirds

When to go
For wildebeest Migration you can visit the park from December-July, April, May and June and the most preferred. For predators you can visit the park from June-October.

Serengeti national park is divided into 3 sections

Northern Serengeti: here migration takes place in the months of July and August, November animals like elephants and giraffes can also be seen here

Serengeti plains: This is the best visited of the 3 due to the wildebeest. But other animals are also found here and they include waterbucks, zebra, gazelle, impala,  topi and buffalo

Western corridor: here you will find the Grumeti River which is home to the Nile crocodiles and colobus monkey

 

Access:

By road: drive from Arusha pass the gate of Lake Manyara National Park, go through Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, proceed to Naabi Hill Gate Serengeti National Park which is about . The distance is 321 km 7 hours drive.

By air: Charter flights from Arusha to Kirawira Airstrip in the Western or to Seronera Airstrip in the centre Serengeti
