Gorilla trekking is an adventurous journey through the African jungle with an intention of seeing Gorillas in their natural habitat. It is called a trek because that is what it is; Gorilla trekking involves walking for long hours – 4 to 6 hours until you find the Gorillas.
Gorillas are categorized into Mountain Gorillas and Lowland Gorillas but and trekking to see either of them in their natural habitat is an incredible experience. Mountain Gorillas can be seen in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park in Uganda, Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda as well as Virunga National Park in DRC Congo.
Gorilla trekking is one of the most popular activities for most visitors who come to Africa. Mountain Gorillas are the favorites for many and these can be found in the Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, Mgahinga National Park which is the other side of the same mountain but on the Ugandan side and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest national Park in Uganda which possess more numbers than the both Volcanoes and Mgahinga.
Mountain Gorilla trekking can also be done in Congo’s Virunga National Park but currently suspended for many reasons but majorly, the insecurity on the Eastern side of the country. It is however possible to see the Lowland Gorillas which are found in Kahuzi-Biega National Park in Congo.
Trekking to see the Gorillas in their natural habitat requires a reasonable level of fitness but that doesn’t mean that it’s meant for athletes; everyone who can walk normally and in good health can do a successful trek and fulfill your dream of standing only a few meters away from the Gorillas in their natural home, going about their daily routine.
